SAA launches new mobile apps

South African Airways (SAA) has launched two new mobile applications giving customers access to comprehensive travel and airline information on the go. Using iOS or Android mobile phones and tablets, SAA passengers can see booking information, check-in for a flight, find the status of their checked-in luggage, and view information on lounges, flights and destinations from anywhere in the world with mobile coverage.

According to Tim Clyde-Smith, SAA's Country Manager for Australasia, the new service facilitates easier and instant access to information for travellers while in transit or away from a computer.

"The new apps will appeal to both business and recreational travellers, particularly those often on-the-go. This is another way of ensuring convenient travelling for our valued customers," Tim said.

"With this new mobile functionality, information such as flight arrivals and departures is now available at passengers' fingertips. Passengers can also search for information on special fares, view Voyager status and miles, use a currency converter, or even get an updated 10-day forecast of the weather at any destination that SAA flies to," Tim said.

Travellers can now download the newly developed mobile applications for their smartphones and tablets from the Apple App Store and Google play stores.

"As a global airline, we're consistently seeking ways to make flying with SAA ever more convenient. Our customers now have the option of by-passing the queues and breezing through the terminal by using either mobile check-in, on-line check-in, or print-your-own boarding pass features. This is the type of service that air travellers have come to expect from Africa's most awarded airline," Tim said.

"On top of the recent news that we've submitted our major future strategic plan to the South African government for review and winning the "most on-time airline award in Africa and the Middle East" from Flightstats, SAA is well and truly on a roll," Tim concluded.

Note for editor: SAA has daily non-stop flights between Sydney and Perth to Johannesburg, with direct connections to the largest network in Africa. SAA is consistently voted the 'Best Airline & Cabin Crew in Africa' winning it for the 16th consecutive year in the Travel Weekly Globe Awards in London. SAA took out top honours at the recent WTA awards in London, with three awards in the Africa category. SAA is a member of STAR, the world's largest alliance which offers more than 21,500 daily flights to 1,356 airports in 193 countries.
