‘THE PEOPLE’S RESORT’ GIVES BACK ON ITS 4TH BIRTHDAY

The community of Natadola Bay warmly received donations this week from guests and supporters of the InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa.

NZ Natural Ice Cream and the InterContinental Fiji provided ice-cream and coffee at the recent Bula Fiji Tourism Exchange and pledged all proceeds to the local community.  The resort raised FJ$1,700 from its coffee sales which will go towards tiling the classrooms at the Rahmatullah Khan Memorial School.

Mr Bob Penn from NZ Natural Ice Cream was also excited to hand over a cheque for FJ$500 to Head Teacher, Mr Dass at the Rahmatullah Khan School today.  Mr Dass said "the money was well received and would contribute to upgrading the facilities at the school".

The school was also fortunate to receive a cheque for FJ$3,300 last night, from organisers of the Tradelink conference being held at the resort.

Today, a data projector and projector screen valued at more than FJ$4,000 were donated by a representative from Device Technologies, Sam Domoni to the Malomalo Primary School.  Delegates of the Device Technologies conference were moved to contribute whilst on a 'weekly school tour' arranged by the resort earlier in the year.

Now celebrating its 4th birthday, the resort started the 'School Community Fund' (an extension of its Community Care Fund) earlier this year to support schools most in need in the Natadola Bay area.  "We have had so much success with our work with the Malomalo Primary School, we knew we could expand our efforts to benefit the wider community as many of our guests were keen to support" said General Manager, Scott Williams.

"We sought advice from the Ministry of Education on those schools most in need in our area and the schools that were selected to be part of the School Community Fund are Naidiri Bay Khalsa School, Rahmatullah Khan Memorial School & Kindergarten, Nadroga Arya College, Tuva Primary School, Batiri Public School and Malomalo Primary School," Mr Williams explained.

Earlier in the year Tuva Primary School received a new fence from organisers and delegates of another Australian company's conference held at the resort.

"We're thrilled to be able to facilitate these donations and are 100% committed to supporting the local school communities.   We look forward to continued partnerships with our guests throughout 2013 and into the future to help create a brighter future for schools in our area" said David Pearson, the Conference & Events Manager at the resort.

InterContinental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa is part of the Intercontinental Hotel Group (IHG). With over 4,500 hotels in over 100 countries and territories there is literally a world of opportunity for IHG employees who aspire to grow and develop their careers.
