Billabong Retreat wins two GOLDs at the 2013 NSW Tourism Awards

Owners Paul von Bergen, Tory von Bergen & staff member Basia Nowasaki receiving their award from Mike WhitneyBillabong Retreat won two golds at the highly acclaimed 2013 NSW Tourism Awards Dinner and Ceremony at Royal Randwick on the 28 November 2013.

Spanning 32 categories, the NSW Tourism Awards celebrate the diverse and significant achievements of tourism operators, who collectively contribute billions of dollars to the state’s economy.

With the calibre of entrants taking the 2013 Awards program to new heights, winning gold is no mean feat. Paul von Bergen, Owner of Billabong Retreat, took out golds in the Award programs Unique Accommodation and Health & wellbeing Tourism categories and is thrilled to be the only business winning two golds.

Congratulating all winners at the Gala Ceremony and Dinner, the Minister for Tourism and Major Events, George Souris, spoke of the key role the tourism industry plays in NSW’s economy.

“Tourism currently contributes more than $50,000 every minute to the NSW economy, reflecting an increase of over 6% since 2011. Tourism is the lifeblood of many of our State’s regional towns, and we are committed to promoting tourism in the regions, as well as supporting events that create local jobs, providing a boost to regional economies even further,” said Minister Souris.

NSW Tourism Award winners automatically become finalists in the QANTAS Australian Tourism Awards in Sydney - February 2014.

All winners were selected by a judging panel of highly-experienced tourism professionals and checked and verified by Bell Partners, specialised auditors.
