Mercure's 'Flavours from the Cellar' Gives Travellers a Real Taste of Australia

Mercure hotel's new wine offer launches across the country

Australia is truly blessed with growing some of the most distinctive wines styles in the world and travellers can now discover new and surprising wines at Mercure hotels following the launch of 'Flavours from the Cellar'.

Mercure's Flavours from the Cellar new wine list is like opening the door of a perfect wine cellar. The list includes some of Australia's best and most authentic wines, specially selected in consultation with renowned wine judge and consultant, Jim McMahon.

For over 30 years Mercure has enabled wine-curious travellers the opportunity to taste a broad selection of quality, regional wines in a relaxed setting at affordable prices.

Now wine tasting at Mercure hotels has been elevated to a new level with Flavours from the Cellar and guests can enjoy a seasonal section of locally inspired wines that are powerful and racy, charming and fruity, and tannic and elegant.

The new Spring/Summer wine menu features well-known varieties such as the Yarra Valley Pinot Gris Innocent Bystander and a Margaret River Chardonnay by Robert Oatley as well as exciting hidden gems waiting to be discovered like the Barossa Valley's Running with the Bulls Tempranillo.

In keeping with its seasonal approach, the Flavours from the Cellar wine list will be refreshed for autumn/winter 2014 not only keeping in with the change in season and travellers tastes, but to accompany new regional dishes available from Mercure's hotel restaurants.

"Mercure Flavours from the Cellar wine list is designed to celebrate the best of Australian wines and introduce travellers to a range of distinctive wineries that guests might not otherwise have a chance to experience," said Accor Chief Operating Officer, Simon McGrath.

"When people travel they want surprising new food and wine experiences so the idea is to enable our hotel guests to discover wines without it becoming too formal or complicated. We have selected wines that are not only attractive and accessible but affordable too."

"Our Mercure hotels have set out to dispel the myth that good wine is only associated with high-end restaurants and high-end prices. Mercure's Flavours from the Cellar shows it is possible to enjoy great wines, many from boutique vineyards, at great value for money," said Simon.

To support the new Mercure Flavours from the Cellar offer, each Mercure hotel has a trained group of knowledgeable and friendly team members who can provide educated wine recommendations to guests which best suits their meal and tastes.

All wines on the Flavours from the Cellar list can be enjoyed by the glass or bottle, whether from the balcony of Mercure Portsea overlooking the golf course and Port Philip Bay, in cosmopolitan Melbourne and Sydney or in intimate restaurant locations at Mercure Canberra and Mercure Gerringong by the Sea.

Mercure Flavours from the Cellar is available at over 20 participating Mercure hotels across Australia.
