The Playford Adelaide joins Accor’s exclusive MGallery Hotel Collection

The Playford Adelaide is the eighth MGallery in Australia. The hotel joins a number of nationally and
The Playford Adelaide_Welcome_Low Resinternationally revered hotels, including The Reef House Resort & Spa Palm Cove, Hotel Lindrum Melbourne, Fairmont Resort Blue Mountains, as well as Hotel St Mortiz in Queenstown, Hotel Muse Bangkok and The Baltimore in Paris.

The Playford Adelaide’s General Manager Daniel Sparr said, “It is an exciting time for the hotel to be joining MGallery. Rebranding The Playford Adelaide to become part of the collection was a natural fit for the hotel. Its history coupled with a tradition of providing warm and welcoming guest experiences makes it a fitting addition and I look forward to seeing guests experience the additional benefits provided as the hotel joins the collection.”

The MGallery Collection is made up of a group of highly individual and distinctive hotels; each one remarkable for its identity and with a special story to tell. Standing on the same site as News Corp’s original offices, The Playford Adelaide was once the site of Rupert Murdoch’s first board meeting held in 1979.

When the hotel opened its doors in 1998, the Sparr family paid tribute to Adelaide’s progressive history by sharing its name with the state’s former premier, Sir Thomas Playford. During his term as premier between 1938 and 1965, Sir Playford oversaw major population and economic gains that contributed to the flourishing city Adelaide is to this day. The former premier’s progressive approach is reflected within the walls of The Playford Adelaide which brings together the best of Adelaide’s assets whether they be artworks from local artists or a menu bursting with local produce.

Walking through the hotel’s front doors, guests are greeted with an ornate Art Nouveau aesthetic that is brought together by a tapestry of local artisans with commissioned furniture, artworks, carpets, statues, sculptures, mosaics, metalwork and mirrors. Over years The Playford Adelaide has attracted many of the state’s leading artists perhaps due to its grandiose design. One of those artists is the revered David Bromley whose artworks now grace the walls of each guest room.

The hotel’s famous breakfast draws together the region’s freshest produce presented in healthy combinations. Coconut water, activated almonds and power balls are just some of the refreshing superfood additions to the health conscious breakfast buffet and make for a robust start to the day.
The same attention to detail extends through to the room service experience which offers every dish from the restaurant’s fine dining menu confidently cooked to the same quality guests can expect if they were to eat in the restaurant.
These five star service standards are also reflected in the welcome with a family of staff that are characteristically warm, energetic and friendly while highly professional and attentive. It is not uncommon for return guests to be known by name which is no doubt the reason The Playford Adelaide is consistently ranked Adelaide’s No.1 hotel on Trip Advisor.

Centrally located on North Terrace, The Playford Hotel Adelaide is located on the doorstep of the city’s burgeoning arts, culture and entertainment precinct. Both exciting and sophisticated, Adelaide’s iconic sites are all within walking distance such as Parliament and Government House, the Art Gallery of South Australia, the South Australian Museum, the State Library, Adelaide Casino, Adelaide Festival Centre. The hotel is also located perfectly for the city’s much lauded latest additions including Adelaide Oval and new South Australia Hospital and Medical Research Institute.

Further afield, the hotel is an easy drive to a spectrum of famous and historic South Australian food and wine regions, beaches and coastal hotspots, including the Adelaide Hills, Hahndorf, McClaren Vale, Barossa Valley, Clare Valley, Kangaroo Island and ‘sunset beaches’ of Glenelg & Victor Harbour.

To celebrate joining MGallery Collection, The Playford Adelaide is offering a special “City Getaway” package which includes a free upgrade to a superior Deluxe Guest Room with a $50 credit per booking to spend on food and beverage within the hotel. Prices start from $175. To book, call (08) 8213 8888.
