The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies Take Adventurous Vacationers on a Breathtaking Horseback-Driven Journey

unnamed (15)In one of the best cowboy comedies of all time, "City Slickers," Billy Crystal and his two pals are all suffering a mid-life crisis. Their cure? A two-week cattle drive on horseback.

At the end of their hilarious and heart-warming adventure the men find courage, friendship, and a new lease on life. Thanks to The Trail Riders of the Canadian Rockies, you too can trade your car for a horse and hit the mountains. The breathtaking beauty of the Canadian Rocky Mountains awakens the adventurist in all of us of what many believe is the most beautiful scenery in the world. This "walk in the park" (world-famous Banff National Park) - is like no other you will ever experience. This non-profit club will operate six six-day professionally guided luxury trail rides this summer. Unlike most backcountry horseback trips, the Trail Riders set up a main camp and, at the end of each day on the trail, return to the camp for "happy unnamed (16)hour," a gourmet dinner, and some much-needed shut-eye in the cozy tents, complete with cots and mattresses. A hot shower is available. Expect the evening to include any combination of: camp fire singing, cowboy poetry, square dancing, story telling, educational talks, horse packing contests, skits and live music. If you can stand a week of this fun and frivolity, you will become a member in this historic and western cultural society.

While many outfitters would charge thousands of dollars for such an experience, a six-day ride with the Trail riders is just $1800. Horse experience is not essential as this is a "dude operation" and over 50% of the riders are +50, 70% are women, and 60% are repeat riders! Put it this way - if there ever was a quintessential, "bucket-list" Western Canadian trip, this is it.

The T.R.C.R. is a non-profit club, operated by a volunteers, who desire to show their fellow countrymen and international friends this great land; to ride into the remote areas of the mountains with a good degree of comfort and at a reasonable cost. Membership is open to any and all individuals who have a love of the wilderness country, and wish to enjoy it in relative comfort with a few like souls.

Originally started in 1923, three of their four founders were from the United States and for many years the club alternated between Canadian and U.S. Presidents since over fifty percent of the riders were coming from the U.S. annually. Sadly, with changes in demographics, culture, and travel expectations, U.S. visitors have dropped in numbers. Now that the Canadian dollar has fallen, U.S. residents receive a 10% discount! T.R.C.R. faces a number of pressures that continue to spell the possible demise of this historic and cultural organization. Competition for people's time and money, changes in how people vacation, increased restrictions from Parks Canada, and changes in culture.
