The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Pattaya Office is inviting local and international tourists to join the amazing spectacle of the 143rd Chon Buri Annual Buffalo Racing Festival, scheduled to take place during 4-10 October, 2014.
This year, the famed buffalo racing, the only one of its kind in the world, will be held on 7 October, 2014, at the ceremony fields in front of the Chon Buri City Municipality Office.
Ms. Suladda Sarutilavan, Director of the TAT Pattaya Office said, “The Buffalo Racing Festival has been held annually for more than 140 years. It is one of the most celebrated cultural heritages of this unique seaside province of Chon Buri. The event was initiated as a way to express gratitude to buffalos after working for farmers throughout the year.”
Apart from the must-see buffalo racing, the week-long festival is offering a wide range of fun-filled activities that have been created to also mark the importance of the buffalo; such as, the Most Healthy Buffalo Contest, Buffalo Fashion Contest and a parade of beautifully-decorated buffalo carts. Other highlights include a Miss Farmer Beauty Contest, Amulet Contest and Thai Martial Arts Contest.
In addition, visitors will be mesmerised by a fair offering numerous choice of food and local handicraft, as well as local folk performances and concerts.
