Qatar Airways A350-1000 makes its Australian debut

Qatar Airways was the global launch customer of the A350-1000 in 2018

Canberra and Sydney today welcomed the first scheduled state-of-the-art Airbus A350-1000 flight, with Qatar Airways QR0906 Doha to Sydney-Canberra route landing at Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport just after 6:00am on Friday morning, before making its way to Canberra Airport and touching down at 8:40am.

The new aircraft will be replacing the Boeing 777-300ER, and joining the airline's twice-daily flight roster between Sydney and Doha. The landing of the new A350-1000 comes just a week after Qatar Airways announced the aircraft will also be deployed on its Adelaide route from early next year, replacing the A350-900. The A350-1000 flights from Adelaide are set to start in March 2020.

The A350-1000 will provide travellers to and from Australia with an enhanced passenger experience, with a capacity of 281 seats in economy class and 46 seats in the award-winning QSuite business class.

Winner of the prestigious Skytrax World's Best Business Class and World's Best Business Class Seat awards 2019, Qatar Airways QSuite redefines business class travel by incorporating various features from first class cabin such as individual suite for privacy, fully-flat double bed and on-demand dining.

The A350-1000 is also equipped with Super Wifi for passengers to enjoy high-speed broadband connectivity with a complimentary one-hour usage and a range of affordable options for subsequent access.

Qatar Airways' Senior Manager for Australasia, Mr. Adam Radwanski, said: "Customers are becoming increasingly savvy and expecting a better standard of comfort when flying, especially on long-haul flights. As the industry evolves, we constantly update our products and services to ensure we continue to offer travellers the very best. With the deployment of the next-generation A350-1000, we're excited to give Australian travellers the chance to experience world-class comfort in the skies."

In 2018, Qatar Airways became the global launch customer of the A350-1000, making it the first airline across the world to fly the most technologically advanced aircraft. The introduction of the A350-1000 to Australia is now set to offer local travellers more comfort than ever before.

The aircraft has a wider cabin body and larger windows, creating an extra spacious feel. It also includes the largest overhead bins of any aircraft, the widest seats of any jetliner in its category and a flat cabin floor without any obstructions for extra legroom.

An advanced air system technology renews cabin air every few minutes and LED mood lighting with 16.7 million colours mimics a natural sunrise and sunset to reduce the effects of jet lag. It is the quietest cabin of any twin-aisle aircraft and the lightest 350-plus capacity passenger aircraft. The aircraft is made from 53 per cent composite material, which allows for less carbon emissions per passenger and fuel consumption which is 25 per cent lower than other aircraft in the same category.

The A350-1000's technological advancements make it the first aircraft to offer passengers a global broadband connection with high-bandwidth fibre optics delivering high-definition video to passengers. Cameras installed on the tail and belly of the plane provide passengers with a 360° outside view throughout the flight. It features a fully integrated wing design with super-efficient winglets for greater aerodynamic efficiency and an advanced flight control system, which constantly adapts to minimise gust-induced wing loading.

Qatar Airways was recently named 'Airline of the Year' for the fifth time by the 2019 World Airline Awards, managed by international air transport rating organisation Skytrax. It was also named 'World's Best Business Class', 'Best Business Class Seat', and 'Best Airline in the Middle East'.

The national carrier for the State of Qatar currently operates a modern fleet of more than 250 aircraft via its hub, Hamad International Airport (HIA) to more than 160 destinations worldwide. The airline has launched a host of exciting new destinations in 2019, including Lisbon, Portugal; Malta; Rabat, Morocco; Davao, Philippines; Izmir, Turkey; Mogadishu, Somalia and Langkawi, Malaysia. Gaborone, Botswana will be added in 2019 and Luanda, Angola; and Osaka, Japan will be added to the airline's growing network in 2020.
