Travelmarvel Launches New 4WD Land Journeys

Premium tour operator Travelmarvel has launched its first dedicated small group 4WD Land Journey program, with two trips that push deep into northern Queensland.

Groups of no more than 20 people will travel aboard modern custom-designed 4WD vehicles with an expert Travelmarvel Driver Guide.

The tours both begin in Cairns, with one travelling to the tip of Australia, Cape York, and the Torres Strait, while the other focuses on Gulf Savannah country.

The seven-day Cape York and the Tropical North by 4WD tour first travels from Cairns along the Bloomfield Track, one of Australia's most iconic outback roads, driving through lush North Queensland rainforest with a host of delightful river crossings while on route to historic Cooktown.

An Indigenous guide then takes travellers through Quinkan Country, ranked by UNESCO as one of the top 10 rock art sites in the world. The guide introduces guests to Split Rock, the most famous of the Quinkan sites, where illustrations were painted between 15,000 and 40,000 years ago.

The journey continues via Weipa to Fruit Bat Falls, where travellers can swim in the clear waters of the Elliott River en route to Cape York. Here, guests can stand on the northernmost point of the Australian mainland at the tip of Cape York and enjoy sublime views over the turquoise sea and offshore islands of Torres Strait.

The tour visits fascinating Thursday Island before returning to air to Cairns, with stunning views of the Great Barrier Reef along the way. It costs from $4,395 per person, but travellers can save $400 per person by booking now.

The Gulf Savannah Discovery by 4WD tour, over eight days, is highlighted by experiences such as an exploration of the unique and mysterious Undara Lava Tubes. This 190,000-year-old site was described by Sir David Attenborough as the eighth wonder of the world.

The journey also includes an excursion from Normanton on RM60, a vintage railmotor that dates from 1931 and previously operated a passenger service between Normanton and Croydon. There is also a scenic cruise on the Gulf of Carpentaria from Karumba, and a visit to rugged Cobbold Gorge which includes a guided boat cruise.

The trip is priced from $4,195 per person, with savings of $400 per couple available for early bookings.

Travelmarvel Product Manager Cher Lontok said of the brand's expansion into 4WD touring: "We have more than 50 years' experience of travelling into outback Australia, and it is exciting for us to be moving into 4WD journeys.

"We are still seeing strong demand for domestic travel, especially to remote outback Australia, so we're confident these two new tours will be very popular." Lontok concluded.
