In 2003, the brand unveiled a major innovation: the Sofitel MyBed experience, the epitome of comfort. A box spring, mattress, topper, comforter, and an extensive selection of pillows, developed with the utmost care to deliver unmatched comfort and the sensation of being cradled in clouds. Sofitel has now taken its commitment to slumber a step further by conducting a scientific study to analyse its guests' sleep. The aim was to better understand how travelers sleep, in order to help them sleep better and longer. The study was designed to minimise the notorious "first night effect," which occurs when people sleep away from home.

Studying the "first night effect"

When we sleep in an unfamiliar place for the first time, the left hemisphere of our brain displays heightened activity, which keeps it in a state of alert even after we have closed our eyes. This is a widespread issue for Sofitel as its diverse clientele includes many people who come for short stays: whether they are visiting for a business trip or enjoying a city break. In 2023, 45% of Sofitel's guests spent only one night in the brand's hotels. Such guests are especially prone to the first night effect. This inspired Sofitel to design an original, first full-scale study to analyse these sleep issues, in collaboration with leading sleep experts.

The subjects close their eyes and surrender to the process

One by one, a sample group of subjects* agreed to participate in this study (which was published in the Journal of Sleep Disorders &Therapy) and conducted in two phases. The first phase was to analyse their sleep at home, to get a baseline measurement of its quality. In the second phase, the subjects were invited to spend one night in a specially fitted out room at the Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe. The study applied a holistic approach that took a host of variables into account: total darkness, a temperature set to 66 °F (19°C), the neutralization of sounds and smells, the nutritional value of the menu, hydration, and breathing exercises. All the senses were studied through sleep sensors installed under the mattress. The objective was to deliver a sleep score out of 100 based on six factors: duration, depth, regularity, interruptions, time to fall asleep and the wake-up phase.

65 minutes of sleep gained

On average, the subjects' sleep quality in the Sofitel Paris Arc de Triomphe room was 13.7% higher than at home—the higher the score, the better the sleep.

The subjects of the study slept an average of 65 minutes longer. Their cardiac and respiratory rhythms were also analysed. Respiratory rhythms were slower, a sign of deeper sleep. 32% of the subjects woke up after 8 a.m., and 64% of the subjects fell asleep in under 30 minutes. These numbers were borne out in the positive feedback the subjects provided: more than 8 out of 10 of them rated the experience as "good" to "very good." When the subjects were asked about the best parts of the experience, the mattress and the pillow were mentioned in 96% of the responses.

"This study was invaluable for Sofitel because it gave us key data on our guests' sleep. In late 2023, we started brainstorming on how we could apply the findings to our hotels across the world. We sought to give all our hotels clear guidelines and the opportunity to revamp their rooms and suites, to elevate the experience of all our travellers in the most personalised way possible." — Nicolas Gronier, VP Global Marketing Sofitel

The most restorative sleep

Sleep has always been a top priority for Sofitel, and now, thanks to the study findings, the brand is putting it front and center in an entirely new experience: The Art of Sleep. This is a complete ritual designed to promote the most peaceful nights. It is a natural extension of the pioneering Sofitel MyBed program, which was launched in 2003.

Since 2003, Sofitel has been pampering guests with its famous Sofitel MyBed pillow menu, from which they can choose the best option for them. The collection includes the Rêverie Douceur, a square pillow filled with soft feathers, and the Ergo Confort pillow, which offers support designed for reading and working in a semi-upright position. The Sofitel MyBed pillow menu is a tailored, thoughtful service that offers premium pillows to help create an inviting environment. To foster sleep, the brand also offers guests a calming herbal tea to drink before bed.

Drawing on the study findings, Sofitel is now preparing to take its commitment to sleep to the next level. Starting in July 2024, it will be phasing in new rituals in each of its hotels. The offerings include light meals formulated to help guests fall asleep quicker, bespoke treatment protocols, relaxing playlists curated specially for the brand's hotels, and precise lighting and temperature adjustments.

rodeimehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13114562768626186868noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5824560287558156316.post-25675577405820594062024-03-17T07:20:00.000+11:002024-03-17T19:14:34.190+11:00Queensland's The Reef House crowned Australia's top luxury hotel

5 Star Luxury Accommodation Gold Winner - The course always produces a spectacular showcase, and I'm excited to welcome back all the players for what I expect to be a truly memorable occasion.”

The concluding leaderboard at last year’s event had a decidedly local flavour. A final round of 67 saw homegrown hero Nguyen Anh Minh take top honours. Minh made history by becoming the first Vietnamese to emerge as the Faldo Series Asia Champion. He’ll return in April to defend his title.

Further back, Vietnamese youngster Le Khanh Hung was tied for third place. Other Vietnamese in the top ten were Nguyen Dang Minh (8th) and Nguyen Duc Son (9th).

The strong showing by young local stars reflects increased domestic engagement with the game. And Minh and his fellow Vietnamese competitors will return to the spotlight at the end of April as they attempt to replicate the successes of last year.

“Support for the junior game in Vietnam and throughout Asia is an integral part of our philosophy. It’s reflected in our long-term status as the home hub for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final.” said Stephen Banks, Director of Golf at Laguna Lang Co.

“Therefore, it was brilliant to see a Vietnamese Champion and strong performances from other Vietnamese juniors last year. It’s going to be fascinating to see if they can repeat that performance this time around.”

Events such as the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final, hosted by Sir Nick Faldo, are sparking interest in golf among Vietnamese youngsters

Indeed, Banks — a long-term accredited PGA member — is helping local kids at Loc Vinh school embark on a golf journey by way of fun coaching sessions. Alongside fellow Golf Operations associates, he guides children on golf basics using the SNAG Golf System, which utilizes tennis-style golf balls and targets for fun, effective and fast skills development. The children can then meet Sir Nick Faldo during the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final event at the scheduled group coaching sessions.

“The future of golf in Vietnam is in the hands of the juniors, and we are determined to help their development,” said Banks.

Inaugurated by Sir Nick Faldo after his victory at the 1996 US Masters, the Faldo Series is recognized as the only global amateur series for boys and girls. Competitors from ages 7 to 25 can test themselves against the very best juniors around the world.

The Series has been a proven success as a pathway for players to reach the top levels of the game, with over 70 Faldo Series competitors now playing on professional tours. Notable alumni include Major winners Rory McIlroy, Danny Willet and Yani Tseng, as well as other familiar names including Tyrell Hatton, Joaquin Niemann, Eddie Pepperell, Li Haotong, Mel Reid, Carly Booth, and Nasa Hataoka.

The global junior series expanded into Asia in 2006, recognising the huge potential on the Asian junior golf circuit. Since then, Laguna Lang Co has played a central role in the initiative as the host venue for the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final: a reflection of its status as a Sir Nick Faldo Signature course, an elite category among Faldo Designs.

The golf course is part of Asia’s most far-reaching integrated resorts, one that also encompasses award-winning hotels Banyan Tree Lang Co and Angsana Lang Co. 2024 is a milestone year as the resort ownership company, Singapore-headquartered Banyan Group, marks its 30th anniversary at the pinnacle of Asia’s hospitality industry. The club is also an integral part of the Vietnam Golf Coast, a destination marketing effort linking signature golf courses in Central Vietnam.

rodeimehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13114562768626186868noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5824560287558156316.post-86247446388291962832024-02-27T16:49:00.000+11:002024-02-27T16:51:39.572+11:00AirAsia Move - formerly airasia Superapp - unveils fresh new look

<p dir="ltr" style="line-height: 1.38; Custard apple, papaya, banana, mango, gac fruit and bitter melon are among the farm’s fruits. The resort is located on the lands of the Larrakia Nation, the traditional custodians of the greater Darwin area. Indigenous engagement is an integral component of the hotels’ redesign.

ADG’s visionary $30 million investment in the project has produced a remarkable transformation of the hotels, with the progressive refurbishment of existing rooms and the creation of new pool villas, suites and bungalows perfectly capturing Darwin’s tropical environment.

Previously, the two hotels had separate receptions, but now a combined reception area has been opened, along with a new Olympic-plus sized/one million litre swimming pool, poolside cabanas, children’s aquatic playground, and new poolside dining, set in extensive tropical landscaping.

A feature of the resort is the diversity of rooms available to guests as part of the 423-room inventory. New-look Novotel and Mercure hotel rooms boast sleek interior designs, and guests can also choose family suites, freestanding bungalows, and new 5-star tropical villas with their own plunge pools.

Offering outstanding comfort, the Tropical Pool Villas have been meticulously crafted for indulgent stays. The interior design and Indigenous-inspired features provide an authentic feel of the tropical Top End environment. The villas offer a plush king-sized bed, large LCD TV, Nespresso coffee machine, and large spa-like bathroom with a rejuvenating rainforest shower. Sliding doors reveal a spacious pool with sun lounges, overlooking the picturesque Rapid Creek bushland, creating an idyllic setting for unwinding and soaking in the serene surroundings.

Capturing their connection to Larrakia country, each of the villas is named after a leading Territorian, with their story outlined for guests to read.

Individually designed and decorated Resort Bungalows are ideal for longer stays, with a veranda and additional space to relax and enjoy the tropical experience, while two-bedroom apartments are available for family stays.

The resort now offers two poolside dining options. The new Splash café and bar joins the laid-back Cossies Poolside Bar & Bistro, which is situated in tropical gardens and showcases the Territory’s famous barramundi as well as grills, salads, pizzas and burgers. Tropical cocktails and mocktails are created by experienced bartenders to complement the poolside atmosphere.

The Darwin Airport hotels are a pioneer in Indigenous engagement. As part of the hotel redevelopment, extensive Indigenous art has been incorporated in the design, including two massive murals on the Novotel exterior, while the 41-metre water tower in front of the hotels has been decorated with a striking Indigenous mural designed to give visitors their first connection to Larrakia people and tell their story.

Its official title is the Water Tower Welcome to Country Project – though already known locally as the ‘Darwin Didgeridoo’ – and is part of ADG’s vision to provide visitors with an exceptional gateway experience to the Northern Territory’s unique lifestyle, ancient cultures and stunning landscapes.

Reflecting this, ADG is dedicating each section of the property to different NT regions, each represented through colour palettes, artwork, and landscaping. Information boards enhance the visitor’s experience and understanding of Aboriginal culture and the history of the Territory.

The hotels are planning to introduce the Gurambai Cultural Experience to give guests an immediate appreciation of Larrakia culture. Gurambai is the Larrakia name for the area known as the Rapid Creek Conservation Reserve which features Darwin’s only natural freshwater creek, just a short walk from the airport hotels. The experience will be curated by Larrakia guides who will deliver a one-hour guided walking tour that will include information about the area’s cultural and historical significance, their connection to the land and freshwater, information about some of the Reserve’s seasonal bush tucker.

A priority of the hotel operation is to employ as many Indigenous staff as possible, and to achieve that goal ADG has established an Indigenous Training Academy to deliver nationally recognised qualifications in the hospitality and tourism sectors. The ADG Training Academy offers traineeship and apprenticeship qualifications, Vocational Education and Training in-school programs, and a mentor program to support students.

Darwin Airport Resort General Manager, Chris Chaffe, says that guests arriving at the resort will be immediately immersed in the Northern Territory’s unique lifestyle, ancient cultures and stunning landscapes.

“Integrating and recognising Larrakia Indigenous culture and heritage has been an integral component of the project,” he said. “The new resort is enriched with Aboriginal art and themes, inside and out, providing an appropriate reminder that this pioneering world-class resort is on the lands of the world’s longest-surviving culture.

“Visitors wanting to explore the Top End will be able to enjoy a complete resort experience, including one of the largest city hotel swimming pools in Australia.

“The resort is the perfect base for Top End getaway. It’s an easy 15-minute drive to the city centre and just over an hour’s drive to Litchfield National Park, one of the Top End’s most popular attractions. It is also very convenient for flights to destinations such as the Tiwi Islands, Kakadu and West Arnhem.”

SPECIAL PACKAGES FOR TROPICAL SUMMER

COUPLES RETREAT:

Darwin Airport Resort’s new Tropical Pool Villas have been meticulously crafted for indulgent stays. Mostly there was the grand dining room where breakfast, lunch and dinner was served – and dinner was a dress-up affair and the lucky few would be invited to the Captain’s table. Ooh la la.

Then along came the buffet – where casual dining sometimes became feeding frenzies and a variety of international cuisines would make an appearance and passengers could get a taste of the ‘world’.

But over the past decade or so, dining on ships has become experiential. Specialty restaurants began to appear giving passengers the opportunity to dine in a more exclusive or private space. Bookings for a table are often made weeks or months in advance.

Attached by a short walkway to Banyan Tree Krabi's signature Thai restaurant, Saffron, which is in turn accessible from the resort by a 60-second ride in an electric funicular, the panoramic trio of Bird's Eye tables are quite possibly one of the most outstanding features that prompted guests to vote Banyan Tree Krabi as No 4 Resort in Thailand at this year's Conde Nast Traveler Readers Choice Awards.

"The Bird's Nests are unique and unlike anywhere else in Krabi," said Executive Chef Khachathat Tairattaphon, known affectionately around the resort as Chef Tum. "These tables offer diners a wonderful atmosphere that is quite nostalgic, especially during the last rays of the sun. It's an ideal spot to enjoy a sunset cocktail, followed by some unique meals that have been created specifically for this occasion."

By Land, By Sea — New Menus at the Bird's Nest

Beginning October 15, 2023, the Bird's Nest is featuring four new set menus, each reflective of local produce and culinary traditions, with every dish carefully refined by Chef Tum into intricate recipes and presented in exquisite style.

"By Land" is the theme of the "Tantalizing Turf" four-course menu, a veritable feast of flavours, starting with an appetiser choice of either Spicy Lemongrass Salad with Tiger Prawn Mousse or Banana Flower Steamed Bun with Grilled Chicken & Fried Local Vegetables. The second course is a spicy Thai soup (southern Thai cuisine is often said to be the spiciest in Thailand) with sea bass. The main course is a mouthwatering Sous Vide Lamb with A-Jad Pineapple, and a dessert and sorbet will round off a delicious dining sensation.

Chef Tum likes to call the "By Sea" menu his "Symphony of the Sea", and you can hear echoes of his time at Bangkok's reputed Sukhothai Hotel, where he trained with several Michelin-star chefs, in his latest creation, the Baked Lobster with Panang Curry Fruit Sauce, an aromatic but delicately light entrée.

The third Bird's Nest menu is the vegetarian "Garden Delights", starting with Dumplings Stuffed with Grains and Mango Passion Fruit Sauce. Perhaps emblematic of the Banyan Tree Group's reputation for and commitment to sustainability and environmental awareness, is the menu's main course, Grilled Soybean Tofu, Sweet Peas with Green Curry Sauce, which is created from organic ingredients purchased from the local Krabi area.

Bird's Nest guests' have a fourth set menu to choose from — titled "A Touch of Opulence". Like the other menus, it offers a choice of appetizer and a spicy soup, but as a main, Chef Tum has called on a favourite Chiang Mai dish, the ever-popular coconut milk-based curry khao soi. Chef's original Beef Khao Soi and Lap Pu Croquettes with Plant-Based Sausages is as lip-smacking as it sounds.

Afternoon Tea?

Evening dining at the three Bird's Nest tables is from 6pm to 11pm daily, and guests are advised to book as far in advance as possible due to popularity. As an outdoor venue, shaded by trees and aided by a sea breeze, attire is smart-casual.

However, for those who miss out on a dinner dining experience, an alternative exists that is equally as photogenic: afternoon tea. Bird's Nest table reservations can be made for either 2pm – 3:30 pm or 3:30 pm – 5pm. Ideal for special occasions such as anniversaries or birthdays, an afternoon tea invite at the Bird's Nest is truly a treat waiting to happen: from a Thai Set with crunchy coconut in betel leaves to a Champagne Set to the timeless Traditional English Afternoon Tea with Earl Grey and scones, smoked salmon sandwiches, chocolate truffles and blueberry cheesecake, this is a surely an enviable moment to be captured and posted to friends and family at home.

The Resort

Banyan Tree Krabi offers 72 pool suites and villas, among them seven two-bedroom options, one three-bedroom villa, and a majestic seven-bedroom beachfront Presidential Villa. Each of the rooms faces the sea and the sunset as the property tiers into the hillside.

Facilities include two restaurants and a beach bar, a beach club, a kids' club, a fitness centre, meeting rooms, and — in keeping with Banyan Tree's wellness branding — a rainforest-themed spa.

For more information or reservations for a Bird's Nest, contact saffron-krabi@banyantree.com or tel: +66 75 811 888.

rodeimehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/13114562768626186868noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5824560287558156316.post-63632808849463840572023-10-28T22:45:00.008+11:002023-10-28T22:45:55.605+11:00Fiona McIntosh's Champagne and Perfume Tour 2024

I certainly wasn't ready for the onslaught of interested people. Wow! There are so many of you on our list and we are only taking around 24 people. I need to keep this group as tight as possible so that we can move nimbly, swiftly and there's room for us in restaurants and hotels. Turning up with 125 people is an entirely different set of logistics

Anyway, I'm pleased to say we finally have a very, very rough arc of a tour coming together. And I will be sending out details via a special newsletter specifically for the tour to everyone who has formally registered their interest. I will give you fair warning via my page on Facebook to look out for it.

I will not be asking for firm bookings then.

I want you to first see what the tour roughly comprises, its dates, the sort of landscape we'll see, the experiences we are setting up, the towns and villages on our itinerary and of course the final dates. I want you all to have time to digest it and work out if it's something you want to do, and that you have the time to do it plus the budget.

We are going to be working with a local travel agent in Australia who can help with all of your arrangements. All I will involve myself in is the tour itself - so day one through to the final day of the tour is my involvement.

Travellers can make their own arrangements via this agent in order to get the best out of their preferences such as airlines, points, preferred stopovers, insurance providers, etc. Some of you may want to do some touring before ours begins e.g. in other parts of France, or other parts of Europe. Some may want to go on an adventure afterwards into UK or take a cruise somewhere. You will have that flexibility and I would urge all of you to make the very most of being on the ground in Europe but I am not involved in any of that.

My focus is on day one, when you all arrive into our first hotel and we meet for our welcome and very celebratory group dinner and then I'll be with you every step of the way through the 12 days of our tour.

Looking at the early drafts, it's exquisite and we are going to be making the most of champagne and wine, as well as perfume through both taste and smell. So you can expect everything from a cookery class using flowers through to learning to make perfume and how to drink absinthe. There will be champagne tours and tastings, some beautiful dining experiences and a hefty dose of chocolate! I plan for it to be as magical as I can make it, including taking in some Impressionist paintings and appreciating Monet.

Lots to look forward to and it will be discussed in more depth later this month in the separate newsletter to those who asked for more information. I am not taking any more registrations please, as we are already so oversubscribed for this tour. Thanks for understanding everyone.

The Musee D'Orsay in Paris...a must.

Learning all about French Champagne in the Champagne region of Reims and Epernay

The hillside village of Grasse - the perfume capital of the world

Learning how to make perfume

Traveloscopy |
