TFE Hotels to cement the next-generation of Vibe Hotels in North Sydney

Vibe Hotel North Sydney – the next hub of inspiration and connection, due to arrive in 2017

TFE (Toga Far East) Hotels is completing a management agreement to establish a new-build, next-generation Vibe hotel as part of Cromwell Property Group's redevelopment of Northpoint Tower, addressing demand for much-needed hotel accommodation in North Sydney's CBD.

Due for completion in early 2017, the 188-room hotel will become one of the next generation of Vibe Hotels, joining the newly-opened Vibe Hotel Marysville in Victoria and Vibe Hotel Canberra Airport, another new-build hotel due to open in quarter four 2015.

TFE Hotels' agreement with Cromwell Property Group to establish a next-generation Vibe Hotel as part of its Northpoint development follows confirmation of the closure of Vibe North Sydney in Milsons Point, which was sold to Cbus Property in 2014 and is set to close its doors on 31 March 2015.

"We are delighted to have had 10 wonderful years with this renowned Vibe Hotel in its stunning location right beside Milsons Point; and the hotel has consistently delivered solid financial returns. This new next generation hotel will ensure Vibe Hotels remains in North Sydney, continuing to support the large corporate community in this part of Australia's largest city. North Sydney will follow the opening of our first next generation Vibe Hotel in Canberra and the new Vibe Hotel Marysville, designed with features to connect you to the locale and enabling our guests to experience the best of the local area" said TFE Hotels CEO, Rachel Argaman.

These brand signatures will be the hallmark of Vibe Hotels' next generation hotels:

Rooms that Inspire – Guest's rooms are a haven in which to relax and feel inspired, with modern and stylish finishes, art and home-grown delicacies in the mini bar reflecting the locale.

A Vibe Lifestyle – Comfortable lounges and bars enhance social and collective experience with strategically placed power points and USB plugs to help guests stay connected and communal Hubs to mingle, eat, work and drink.

Vibe Connected – Stay connected to your family, friends or work where ever you are. Free Wi-Fi lets you do what you want, where you want.  Vibe Community Connection is an initiative to help support the local community surrounding each Vibe Hotel. As part of this program each Vibe Hotel will support local charities.

Vibe Discovery – Vibe Hotels are close to everything you need to immerse yourself in the locale. Team members play host to our guests - as they welcome you to their "home" and we like to share local knowledge and educational information with our guests, to keep them in the know on what to eat, see and do.

Vibe Fit – Fit Food menu options, local running track maps, an in-room yoga channel or to enjoy a work out with fellow guests; Vibe Hotels have everything you need to stay fit and healthy while travelling.

Creative Conferencing – Vibe meetings are spaces to think, inspire and spur creativity with casual seating and creative breakout areas, note pads filled with inspirational quotes, customised lighting and music, regionally inspired menus, state of the art multimedia and high speed internet.

"This new hotel will feature all the hallmarks of our next-generation Vibe hotels, including inspiring guestrooms and public spaces, free WiFi and our Vibe Fit program for active travellers.  We'll also be addressing demand among local corporates for more dedicated event and meeting space in North Sydney with a 300-capacity MICE facility within the hotel, supported by our new Creative Conferencing products and services.

"We're excited to be working with Cromwell Property Group to create another next-generation Vibe Hotel and a fresh option for places to stay and meet in North Sydney," Argaman said.

North Sydney's Northpoint Tower is a 44-storey landmark, currently comprising office and retail space.  Its redevelopment will include a complete overhaul of the existing retail offering and construction of a new generation Vibe Hotel on the northern edge of the site.  TFE Hotels is currently in discussions to run the hotel under a management agreement with Cromwell Property Group.

"TFE Hotels is our partner of choice for this development.  We've seen how consistently successful the company has been, driving sustainable occupancy and rate with its Vibe hotel in Milsons Point and we're impressed with how closely their commitment to ROI aligns with our own goals for Northpoint," said Rob Percy, Associate Director of Cromwell Property Group.

"There's a noticeable gap between supply and demand for quality hotel accommodation and meeting facilities in North Sydney.  The redevelopment of the Northpoint Tower site is an excellent opportunity to address that gap and diversify the asset.  TFE Hotels and the Vibe Hotels brand will help us make the most of that opportunity."

Hotel Kurrajong Canberra Offers More Than Old-World Charm and Elegance

Guests have returned to an era of old-world charm and elegance when the historic Hotel Kurrajong Canberra reopened its doors on 16 December 2014.

Nestled among trees between Lake Burley Griffin and Capital Hill, the heritage-listed hotel that originally opened in 1926 is in Canberra's parliamentary district, operated as a boarding house and more recently, a hotel school. In a joint venture between TFE Hotels and the National Roads & Motorist's Association (NRMA), the pavilion-style hotel has been fully restored with a distinct art deco theme, ahead of its reopening this month.

CEO of NRMA, Tony Stuart said the history behind the famed Hotel Kurrajong Canberra married well with the NRMA's proud history in Canberra as Australia's largest mutual organisation.

Originally constructed as one of two hotels of equal walking distance from Old Parliament House, Hotel Kurrajong is part of the fabric of Australia's political capital. It is most famous as post World War Two Prime Minister Ben Chifley's home in Canberra; he preferred the comfortable, down-to-earth hotel to the Australian PM's official residence, The Lodge.

The restored Hotel Kurrajong has old world charm with a stylish and contemporary twist. Guests will be struck by the 1920's-inspired decor and hospitality from the moment they arrive. The cosy fireplace, the Library that is full of historic literature and the collages of photographs from different periods along the hallways give guests a sense of the hotel's history.

Hotel Kurrajong offers a premium dining experience at Chifley's Bar & Grill, a quality-driven steakhouse and bar with the award winning hatted chef Michael Chatto at the helm. Chatto has created a delicious menu with the use of fresh local produce, hand selected meats and more than 120 local and international wines. With a strong focus on premium beef, Chifley's features a stand-alone steak menu, where customers can choose from 18 different cuts including David Blackmore Wagyu and Cape Grim Black Angus, each listed with its weight, origin and marble scores.

Michael and his team will take inspiration from the 1920's to create a unique experience for diners. Guests will be able to select cuts from the window to The Back Bench, a meat ageing room on display in the dining room, which spreads into a glassed-in terrace overlooking the hotel gardens.

Michael Chatto's influence on the hotel extends to the guest rooms, each with a minibar stocked with Hotel Kurrajong's own ginger beer brewed on-site, almonds smoked and biltong cured in the hotel kitchen.

Rachel Argaman, CEO of TFE Hotels, said: “We are very excited to be reopening the doors of this sophisticated and historic hotel with ties to key Australian political and architectural figures.

“TFE Hotels is particularly respectful when working with heritage buildings and our aim is to keep the essence of the hotel while creating a modern, comfortable stay for our guests, offering premium service whilst steeped in history,” she added.

The iconic hotel underwent a significant renovation to ensure it retains many of its historic architectural features including pavilions, deep verandas and courtyards. Andrew Parr of SJB Interior Design is the man behind the new sophisticated refurbished interior.

“With Hotel Kurrajong Canberra, we have remained true to the era and existing architecture of the building and selected design elements that offer a historical context with a sophisticated 21st century twist.

We see style and luxury combine effortlessly with the hotel's distinct architectural history to bring a refined sense of glamour and elegance,” Andrew Parr said.

The hotel's sophisticated design and chic furnishings also pay homage to its notable origins and design by the Commonwealth's Chief Architect John Smith Murdoch in 1926; who was also responsible for the design of Old Parliament House.

The hotel comprises of 147 rooms, 26 of which are located in the heritage wing, four executive suites, four balcony rooms and eight terrace rooms. The hotel's charming garden setting is keeping most of his original plantings that were established by Thomas Charles Weston, then the Superintendent of Parks and Gardens in Canberra.

Aussies Rate Household Chores as Top Weekend Spoiler

New Toga Hotel’s research uncovers top reasons Aussies aren’t enjoying their weekends

Although 91% of Australians look forward to their weekends, they admit the burden of household chores is one of the top three barriers to enjoying their free time, according to new research from Toga Hotels.

More than 1 in 5 (23%) Aussies reveal household chores are getting in the way of taking a short break or getaway on the weekends, with 43% of Australians saying they spend their weekends catching up on mundane household tasks like cleaning the house, ironing and washing.

The obligation of performing household tasks is followed by finances and family commitments when it comes to top weekend spoilers.

Parents made up a third (32%) of those who selected household commitments as one of the top three weekend spoilers, with 56% being female compared to 49% of males.

Emma Fraser, Group Director of Marketing at Toga Hotels says the company‘s new research underlines the need for Aussies to take back their weekends!

“We know Aussies look forward to their weekends, but our research shows that by the time it comes around many allow household tasks to get in the way of enjoying their precious time off.

We want to encourage the return of the ‘Great Aussie Weekend‘ – a time when everyone gives themself permission to switch off and say goodbye to never-ending to do lists.”

Toga Hotels will be launching a new campaign next month to inspire more Aussies and Kiwis to getaway and enjoy their weekends.

Adina Apartment Hotel Royal Randwick Racecourse

Australian Turf Club (ATC) Chairman John Cornish announced today that international company Toga Hotels has signed an Agreement to manage a 170 room, 4 star apartment hotel at Royal Randwick.

Branded Adina Apartment Hotel Royal Randwick Racecourse, the unique track fronting hotel is part of the ATC's world-class redevelopment of Royal Randwick Racecourse and its vision to create Sydney's best racing, entertainment and events destination.

This hotel is a key part of a growing array of centralised services and accommodation to benefit Members and the broader community. ATC is also taking advantage of a buoyant Sydney hotel market, with occupancy rates near all time highs and room rates on the increase.

The hotel will be located along Alison Road at the end of the main straight, with spectacular views over the racetrack towards the winning post and across Centennial Park to the city skyline.

The new hotel will provide quality accommodation to race day attendees, local and visiting businesses, as well as tourists, event goers and the surrounding community including UNSW, Prince of Wales Hospital, Sydney Cricket Ground, Allianz Stadium, Sydney International Airport, and Sydney CBD.

A restaurant, pool deck bar and conference facilities within the hotel will provide superior dining and business facilities to hotel guests, race-goers and the local residential and business community.

"Very few new Sydney hotels have been developed in recent years. Our research shows there is strong demand for rooms to service the needs of visitors to the event precinct of Royal Randwick and its surrounding neighbours which includes the Eastern Suburbs beach precincts," Mr Cornish said.

Similarly the Children's Hospital requires rooms for visiting surgeons, specialists, families and patients; whilst UNSW is regularly looking for accommodation for visiting lecturers and students.

"On race days we will be able to accommodate our intrastate, interstate and international visitors trackside, which will be highly valued during Carnivals.

"Our growing non-raceday meetings, conference and events business will be greatly enhanced with onsite accommodation and additional conference facilities just a few kilometres from the Sydney Airport, Sydney CBD and Bondi Beach."

Minister for Racing, George Souris, has congratulated the Board of the Australian Turf Club for its vision and forward thinking in its latest project at Royal Randwick.

"This magnificent facility on the edge of Sydney's CBD, is much needed, providing much needed accommodation, conference space, restaurants and facilities for racing participants, Mr Souris said.

"The hotel development will greatly compliment the current redevelopment of Royal Randwick which will make it the envy of the thoroughbred racing world with the most modern, state-of-the-art facilities.
"Royal Randwick is situated on the doorstep of Australia's global city and this extensive rebuilding and much needed hotel project will not only benefit race day crowds, but position Sydney to leverage fresh tourism and visitation with the new purpose-built sporting, recreation and event facilities."

The hotel will be operated by the Toga Hotels, who are responsible for the management of 52 hotels across Australia, New Zealand and Europe under the recognised brands of Adina Apartment Hotels, Medina Apartment Hotels, Vibe Hotels and Travelodge Hotels.

Allan Vidor, Managing Director of Toga Group said "Toga Hotels is excited to announce plans to open Adina Apartment Hotel Royal Randwick Racecourse and help support the Australian Turf Club's vision of creating Sydney's premier racing and entertainment destination".

"The Adina Apartment Hotel brand will be an ideal fit for Sydney's racing heartland, offering serious levels of space and a commitment to contemporary design. Guests will feel immediately at home with separate lounge rooms, bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens and laundries along with lifestyle facilities such as a gym, pool and restaurant. For those wanting to experience the excitement of trackside action, many rooms will feature balconies with views toward the winning post.

"Adina Royal Randwick Racecourse will fill a much needed gap with accommodation and lifestyle facilities in this dynamic precinct that is the home to the sport of kings".

The hotel is expected to commence construction in late 2012, with an opening date to follow completion of the Royal Randwick Grandstand redevelopment in 2014.

Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury still the city's 'mint' property

BY RODERICK EIME IN ADELAIDE

Adelaide, as anyone knows, is a quirky town. Established in 1836 by British free settlers, the city was beautifully designed and laid out by Colonel William Light with a foresight that South Australians enjoy to this day.

The quirkiness extends into numerous facets of Adelaide life and one of the most obvious is their extremes of architectural design. Early photos of the city show ornate Victorian and Edwardian buildings styled in rich, locally-hewn sandstone. Over the years many of these noble buildings have vanished, to be replaced by enormous glass, metal and marble monoliths of dubious aesthetic value. It is quite common to see surviving examples flanked by these “modern” monstrosities.

The centre of the city is Victoria Square, bordered by this awkward dichotomy of old and new, is presided over by some of the city’s best known classic buildings; the GPO, the courthouse, the former Moore’s department store and the old treasury building. In 2002 Toga Hospitality chose the Medina Serviced apartment brand to complete their total renovation of this very early, almost derelict Adelaide civic landmark, creating one of the most innovative and stylish serviced apartment projects anywhere. In 2004 it scooped the category at the HM Awards and garnered a UNESCO citation in 2003.

Finally I have the chance to experience this magnificent property, respectfully and tastefully restored right down to the original Premier’s Cabinet Room, courtyard garden and secret underground tunnels. Guided by long-serving reservations manager, Kasha Adams, newly installed GM, Ben Lancken and I tour the former corridors of power.

“We’ve had one or two guests ask to change rooms because of a spooky ‘presence’”, claims Kasha, “and there have also been tales of moving furniture, flying tools and noisy cocktail parties in vacant rooms.”

Many of the artefacts like coins, cans and cutlery uncovered during restoration work are displayed in cabinets.

As for future plans, I asked Toga Director of Brands and Communication, Lisa Phillips, about what Toga have in store for the Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury and the key to developing the unique customer experience.

“Over the past 12 months at Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury, we have continued to work hard on delighting each and every guest,” she says. “Our guests lie at the heart of everything we do and we have some wonderful initiatives in place to help us deliver a great experience, every time.

“A critical component to enhancing the guest experience is the ongoing training of our Team Members. A reflection of the strength of these systems can be seen at Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury though the high percentage of guests indicating they would recommend the hotel to friends and family and through positive reviews on key listening platforms such Trip Advisor.

“The guest experience has also been enhanced through the continuous upgrade of facilities throughout the hotel including the installation of brand new televisions throughout in 2010. We look forward to maintaining and improving on the strong performance of this hotel into 2011 and beyond.

“Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury is a beautiful hotel, a jewel in the Toga crown. One of our priorities when it comes to this hotel is to maintaining the integrity of the building, both inside and out, rather than making dramatic alterations due to its historical importance.

“In order to do so, we will continue to roll out an ongoing upkeep schedule whilst working with our interior design team to constantly find new ways to showcase the hidden treasures and unique features of this hotel,” she says.

Developments of this scale and integrity are rare in Australia, especially in a CBD, with other examples like the Henry Jones Art Hotel in Hobart and Rothbury On Ann in Brisbane some of the few worthy contemporaries in this category.

With business and meeting facilities, restaurant and bar plus unusual function space, Medina Grand Adelaide Treasury is a beacon of taste and style in a sometimes confused city.
