Eureka Skydeck 88 will once again embrace Melbourne’s rich Chinese culture and international visitors from 6-12 February, honouring the 2016 Year of the Monkey with Chinese New Year theming, giveaways and a lucky 88 display.
Situated on the 88th floor of Eureka Tower, the Skydeck can be considered a lucky place to celebrate the New Year with the number 8 considered an attractive symbol of luck and prosperity in Chinese culture.
The Eureka Skydeck 88 entry will be glowing red throughout Chinese New Year with its sea of beautiful red lanterns, while visitors seize the opportunity to discover their Chinese zodiac sign and New Year fortune.
From 6 – 21 February, Australia’s largest illuminated Dragon Head will also visit Eureka Skydeck. Sitting at almost five metres high, two metres wide and seven and a half metres long, the Chinese New Year dragon’s head will be situated in the plaza just out the front of Eureka Skydeck for all visitors to see.
The Southern Hemisphere’s highest viewing platform is the place to be until 10pm daily (last entry 9.30pm) when the city lights up for Chinese New Year. Visitors will also get the chance to find their luck at Eureka Skydeck 88 with fortune cookies containing prizes to be given away.
During Chinese New Year, bi-lingual information boards will be on display at Eureka Skydeck with social and historical information and images to educate and enlighten visitors about Chinese culture.
Since its opening in 2007, Eureka Skydeck has welcomed an increasing number of Chinese visitors, both international and domestic, and China is now considered Eureka Skydeck’s top international market. Those who visit the observation deck are offered visitor guides in simplified and traditional Chinese and directional signage in Mandarin.
With a presence on Chinese social media sites Wechat, Sina Weibo and Youku, Eureka Skydeck strives to communicate with its ever-growing Chinese fan base across all multimedia platforms.
