Eco-Friendly Holidays now Easy thanks to Kangaroo Island Odysseys and Australia’s New Green Travel Guide

Kangaroo Island Odysseys and Flinders Ranges Odysseys luxury and eco-friendly tours are now easier to find by those looking for sustainable travel experiences, thanks to the launch of Ecotourism Australia’s new Green Travel Guide - the travel companion for eco-conscious travellers everywhere.

The Green Travel Guide has been a longstanding resource for environmentally-conscious travellers and the new iteration of the website – a searchable database of travel experiences and destinations certified by Ecotourism Australia’s internationally recognised certification programs – has been built as a Progressive Web App, which means it can be added to a mobile phone home screen and utilised offline.

Kangaroo Island Odysseys operate one-, two- and three-day luxury, eco, nature and wildlife tours on Kangaroo Island in South Australia. Flinders Ranges Odysseys offers three-day luxury touring to the Flinders Ranges.

All tours depart from Adelaide or are available when on Kangaroo Island and are operated in 4x4 modern luxurious fuel-efficient vehicles and offer a personalised service in a small group setting. Tours are accompanied by experienced guides who are passionate about Australia’s native flora and fauna and knowledgeable about the local culture, history, wildlife, and ecosystem.

According to Kangaroo Island Odysseys Marketing Manager Julie-Anne Briscoe, partnering with Ecotourism Australia and being a part of the new Green Travel Guide was an easy decision and one made in the hope more people would consider a nature-based and sustainable holiday.

“The Green Travel Guide is an essential tool for the eco-friendly traveller. Our tours offer high-quality eco experiences on Kangaroo Island and in the Flinders Ranges and they focus primarily on experiencing nature in all her beauty and wildlife and marine life in its natural habitat.

“Nature-based experiences on Kangaroo Island include visiting Seal Bay to see Australian sea lions and Flinders Chase National Park which is home to a variety of fauna and flora unique to Kangaroo Island, and natures breathtaking creations such as Admirals Arch and Remarkable Rocks. Tours also visit the islands many spectacular beaches and the views of the island's coastlines are just gorgeous.”

“Guests are also taken to restricted areas of Kangaroo Island’s national parks and private properties where native animals like kangaroos, echidnas, wallabies, goannas, and koalas roam freely in their natural habitat. Some tours also include snorkelling and the chance to swim with dolphins,” continues Ms Briscoe.

“The Flinders Ranges is a destination like no other, it is a mountain range that spans 430 kilometres and is one of the oldest surviving environments in the world being over 800 million years old.

“The Flinders, as we call it, is really one of the outstanding natural beauty spots of outback Australia, with its ancient landscapes, aboriginal heritage, and pioneering history. It’s a must for everyone to visit.”

With the demand for high-quality, immersive nature-based travel experiences growing particularly in the wake of COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions, Ecotourism Australia CEO Rod Hillman says the launch of the new Green Travel Guide couldn’t have come at a better time.

“People are increasingly looking for experiences that bring them back to nature, that refresh them not just physically but also emotionally. The demand for sustainable, nature-based tourism is growing and at the same time people are becoming savvier about the holiday decisions they make, wanting to have a positive impact on the places they visit.

“The new Green Travel Guide makes it easy for visitors to plan their holiday itineraries around ECO certified experiences – those that are backed by a strong, well-managed commitment to sustainable practice”.

The new Green Travel Guide features over 1,700 tours, accommodations and attractions certified through Ecotourism Australia’s ECO, Respecting our Culture (ROC) and Climate Action certification programs, as well as for destinations progressing through their certification journey.

Kangaroo Island Odysseys tours depart Adelaide or Kangaroo Island daily and include the one-day Kangaroo Island Wildlife Discovery Tour, the one-day Flinders Chase Nature and Wildlife Tour and the one-day Kangaroo Island Food, Wine and Marine Adventure Tour. All tours can be combined to make a three-day tour, offering different highlights every day.

The three-day Flinders Ranges Outback Tour departs Adelaide on selected Mondays and Fridays at 7.30am. The tour can be combined with the Highlights of Kangaroo Island Tour to make the 5 Day Flinders Ranges Outback and Highlights of Kangaroo Island Tour.
