The Tasman Hobart Named in the World's 50 Best Hotels

The Tasman, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Hobart, has been named no. 49 in the global ranking of The World’s 50 Best Hotels 2024.

Following a successful debut in 2023, the second edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels has been announced in London, and includes hotels from across six continents worldwide. The Tasman is one of only two hotels in Australia to be included in the prestigious list.

Centrally located on Hobart’s waterfront, The Tasman is a heritage reconstruction of former state government offices that offers guest rooms and suites designed to showcase the architecture of the site. With strong credentials in culinary circles, the hotel is home to Peppina, a signature restaurant under Tasmanian chef Massimo Mele, as well as Mary Mary, an intimate cocktail bar and spirits library that can be found nestled within historic sandstone walls.

Tourism Tasmania’s Acting CEO Vanessa Pinto says it is an incredible achievement for The Tasman and for Tasmania to be recognised as having one of the top 50 hotels in the world: “While Tasmania’s visitors benefit from our breathtaking landscape and world class produce, it’s the warmth of our people, our award-winning food, wine, and spirits scene and the passion of our tourism operators that truly set our experiences apart”.

Stephen Morahan, The Tasman Hotel General Manager, says: “Tasmania has long been a jewel in Australia’s crown as a place to experience natural and epicurean delights, and fabulous warm friendly hospitality. The Tasman embodies these experiences and to be celebrated on the world’s stage is not only a testament to our offerings but those of the entire state. I would like to express my gratitude to The World’s 50 Best judging panel for the acknowledgement and, of course, thank our amazing team who offer the exceptional service every day that puts The Tasman a cut above the rest.”

Tim Brooke-Webb, Managing Director for The World’s 50 Best Hotels, comments: “We’re thrilled to be back in London celebrating the second edition of The World’s 50 Best Hotels. Bringing together so many influential figures from the travel industry to honour and celebrate the world's finest hotel experiences is truly a special moment. Our heartfelt congratulations go out to every hotel on the list, each of which has clearly made a lasting impression on our Academy of travel experts. We hope 2024’s list inspires travel lovers to choose a truly spectacular destination for their next trip.”

Tasmania’s tourism and hospitality industry has enjoyed a string of prestigious award wins recently, with Agrarian Kitchen being named Australia’s Best Restaurant, Devonport winning Australia’s Top Tourism Town, Wukalina Walk listed in TIME’s World’s Greatest Places, and Tasmania making The New York Times Best Places to Visit list.
