La Perle D’oman, The Showstopping Most Expensive Dessert In Australia

The Sultanate of Oman, Ministry of Tourism joined forces with Cerrone Jewellery, Etihad Airways, BMW and the Arab Bank of Australia to sponsor a glamorous evening in Sydney showcasing the finest elements of Arabic food, fashion and culture at the 3rd Magnificence of the Middle East Ball.

A special feature on the night was the unveiling of the most talked about dessert in town – the Pearl of Oman, valued at $500,000. The delicious sweet featured a delicate meringue tiara around a ball of white chocolate-covered pomegranate jelly on a bed of silver-encrusted pistachio sponge. The core was liquid gold. For finishing touches a smattering of 24-carat gold leaf and 60 Kimberly Diamonds were donated by celebrity jeweller Nick Cerrone. French chef Vincent Gadan described his creation as “the most luxurious dessert I’ve ever seen”.

Other highlights of the evening included a tempting array of dishes prepared by Australia’s finest chefs: Shane Delia, Matt Moran, Shannon Benett and Vincent Gadan as well as the entertaining MC of the evening, Lisa Wilkinson, who was appropriately attired in a Basil Soda black gown. The haute couture designer Basil Soda could not attend on the evening, however, his 2013/2014 Spring Collection was showcased direct from Paris. David Jones shall be selling his latest collection as of December this year.
