Byron Bay's New Era of Luxury with ESTE Wategos
A new luxury accommodation is set to redefine staying in Byron Bay with the upcoming launch of ESTE Wategos. This architecturally designed property, created by Shaun Lockyer Architects, is the result of a 20-year friendship between Dr. George Bilios and entrepreneur Chris Bissiotis.
Located on the most easterly point of Australia, nestled beneath the iconic Byron Bay lighthouse. ESTE Wategos offers breathtaking views of one of the country’s most coveted beaches. This exclusive accommodation harmoniously blends the serene blue of the ocean with the lush green of Byron’s national parks, creating an immersive experience that elevates well-being through nature and luxury.
ESTE Wategos embraces the concept of “prescribing nature” with every detail of the property being meticulously crafted to harness the restorative effects of the ocean and rainforest. This draws on blue-green space theory, highlighting the calming synergy between water and greenery to promote optimal health.
“The proximity to both the ocean and rainforest isn’t just about aesthetics—it’s about creating a space where guests can disconnect, recharge, and experience the well-being benefits of being immersed in nature, being near the ocean and rainforest provides a unique synergy that calms the mind, reduces stress, and promotes mental clarity”. Said co-founder Dr. George Bilios.
ESTE Wategos comprises two expansive three-level residences, expertly crafted by DB Build, featuring bespoke spotted gum finishes. The entrance and private courtyard showcase stone walling along with meticulously hand-laid paving in honed, Italian travertine, a theme continued throughout the property, reflecting a commitment to uncompromising quality. The architecture seamlessly blends indoor and outdoor spaces, with both villas connected by a striking three-storey light well that floods the interior with natural light.
The interiors are curated by Fiona Dunin of FMD Architects and furnished with bespoke pieces from Mark Tuckey and Jardan. Lush rooftop terraces offer an inviting space for relaxation or entertaining, while glass-bottomed pools provide uninterrupted and breathtaking views over Wategos Beach.
Each residence comfortably accommodates up to six adults and when combined, they offer the ultimate oasis for up to fourteen guests, making it perfect for family getaways or gatherings with friends.
Guests at ESTE Wategos enjoy a personalised luxury service, with a dedicated driver and concierge. From adding gourmet meals prepared by a private chef to spa treatments and bespoke local experiences, the pre-arrival concierge service ensures a seamless and stress-free stay. As one of Byron’s most exclusive destinations, stays at ESTE Wategos are by application only, with bookings subject to availability.
“Both George and I have travelled extensively and through our travels we became inspired to create a tranquil yet luxurious getaway in one of our favourite locations” said co-owner Chris Bissiotis. “With ESTE Wategos, we’re excited to share a unique sanctuary unlike anything seen before in Byron Bay.”
ESTE Wategos is set to open in May 2025, and prospective guests are invited to register their interest. Each booking is personally reviewed and tailored to individual preferences. For more information, visit www.estewategos.com. --
