Eccentric inventor Wallace and his faithful, if often perplexed, dog Gromit are the much-loved stars of Nick Park’s Academy Award winning Wallace & Gromit films. The clay animated characters and international pop culture icons star in a series of short films including the Oscar® winning The Wrong Trousers, A Close Shave and the Oscar® feature film - The Curse of the Were-Rabbit .
In Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels, the pair turn their attentions to the music business for a show featuring some cracking new animation plus timeless Wallace & Gromit moments, all set to a live orchestral performance of classical favourites including music by Mozart, Stravinsky and Debussy.
What’s more, Wallace is positively beaming with pride, having been commissioned to create a brand new piece of music for the concert. So with Gromit at his side, Wallace is preparing for his musical masterpiece, ‘My Concerto in Eee Lad’ …what could possibly go wrong?
The performance also includes a special screening of the multi award winning Wallace & Gromit film “A Matter of Loaf and Death” with the soundtrack performed by the Orchestra live on stage.
Merlin Crossingham, Creative Director, Wallace & Gromit said, “We are delighted that Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels will be playing at Sydney Opera House this festive season, after its successful show with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra earlier in the year.
It is brilliant that even more Australian fans will have the chance to experience this spectacular musical event, featuring live orchestral music and brand new Wallace & Gromit animation.”
Andrew Spencer, Executive Producer, Sydney Opera House said, “I am thrilled to be bringing Musical Marvels to the Opera House. The show was originally conceived for the 2012 BBC Proms when Wallace & Gromit agreed to make their orchestral debut at London’s Royal Albert Hall and thankfully they have agreed to do all it again for Sydney-siders. Musical Marvels is a live entertainment treat for anyone who is a fan of Wallace and his hapless side-kick Gromit.”
Helen Pendlebury, Head of Commercial, Entertainment and Children’s Brands, BBC Worldwide Australia & New Zealand said,“Following the success of the Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular last year, we are delighted to work with Sydney Opera House once again to bring audiences the chance to experience much-loved shows and characters in a completely different way. Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels is a perfect family event which will keep audience members both large and small entertained from beginning to end.”
