Qatar Airways celebrates 10 years of flying to Perth

Qatar Airways marked ten years since first launching its Perth–Doha route yesterday. The airline celebrated the key milestone with special anniversary cookies for passengers departing Perth on QR901 last evening at the Perth Airport.

Qatar Airways first launched its Perth–Doha service on 3 July 2012, operating the Boeing 777-200 aircraft into the western Australian city. Currently, the once-daily Perth–Doha service is operated by Boeing 777-300ER, featuring Qatar Airways award-winning QSuite Business Class. Since the commencement of services, Qatar Airways has carried over 1.6 million passengers in and out of Perth in the last decade, supporting the state’s AUD $5.6[BC1] [PP2] billion tourism industry. The airline has also exported close to 68,000 tonnes of cargo to Perth and imported more than 55,300 tonnes of cargo from Perth over the past ten years.

Qatar Airways Vice President of Sales for Southeast Asia, Southwest Pacific & Indian Subcontinent, Jared Lee said: “Ten years of service to Perth is a significant milestone, and Qatar Airways would like to thank the Western Australian government, our customers and trade partners for their continuous support. Qatar Airways has always been committed to the Western Australian market, and is one of the very few airlines that never stopped flying throughout the entire COVID19 pandemic period. With international borders now open and travel demand returning, Qatar Airways looks forward to bringing West Australians to the rest of the world, while supporting West Australian exports with our cargo service. We look forward to the next ten years and beyond.”

Perth Airport CEO Kevin Brown said Qatar Airways and Perth Airport have maintained a great partnership in the last decade, particularly during the global pandemic period.

“Over the past two years, this strong partnership became even more apparent as Qatar Airways has maintained its connectivity to Perth since the pandemic. Qatar Airways continued to operate services to Perth in order to bring Australians home, and carry important export and import freight crucial to Western Australia and its economy. These actions show the airline’s strong commitment to Western Australia. The Perth–Doha service gives passengers direct access to Doha and onto its global network of more than 150 business and leisure destinations globally, with a world-class airline which took out the World’s Best Airline at the most recent Skytrax Awards in 2021,” said Brown. “And now that our great Socceroos will be thrilling fans at the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, what better time to book your ticket and get on in the action.”

A multiple award-winning airline, Qatar Airways was announced as the ‘Airline of the Year’ at the 2021 World Airline Awards, managed by the international air transport rating organisation, Skytrax. It was also named ‘World’s Best Business Class’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Lounge’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Airline Seat’, ‘World’s Best Business Class Onboard Catering’ and ‘Best Airline in the Middle East’. The airline continues to stand alone at the top of the industry having won the main prize for an unprecedented sixth time (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2021).

Qatar Airways also became the first global airline in the world to achieve the prestigious 5-Star COVID-19 Airline Safety Rating by Skytrax. This follows the success of Hamad International Airport as the first airport in the Middle East and Asia to be awarded a Skytrax 5-Star COVID-19 Airport Safety Rating. These awards provide assurance to passengers across the world that the airline’s health and safety measures are subject to the highest possible standards of professional, independent scrutiny and assessment.

Qatar Airways currently flies to over 150 destinations worldwide, connecting through its Doha hub, Hamad International Airport, currently named the ‘Best Airport in the World” by Skytrax World Airport Awards 2021.
