Could you survive alone in the outback?

Survival Expert Offers Bushcraft Courses That Could Save Your Life

With more people reconnecting with nature and seeking adventure, survival and bushcraft skills have never been more relevant. As Australia faces increasingly extreme weather conditions and more people want to venture into the outdoors to counteract our overly technology-dependent lives, these skills are essential—not just for adventurers but for anyone who wants to be truly prepared.

Gordon Dedman, Founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia, military survival instructor and Survival Consultant for Alone Australia, is launching his 2025 Bush Survival Courses this month across the country. Designed to take participants from modern outdoor skills to complete wilderness self-reliance, these immersive courses offer hands-on training for all skill levels.

Whether you're a beginner looking to build confidence in the outdoors or an experienced adventurer ready to master advanced bushcraft, Bushcraft Survival Australia teaches the critical skills needed to thrive in any environment.

Gordon Dedman: teaching you how to survive

"As more people seek adventure and reconnect with nature, understanding basic survival skills and a deeper understanding bushcraft has never been more important. Whether you're an outdoor enthusiast, a family wanting to build resilience, or someone preparing for Australia’s extreme conditions, our courses provide practical, hands-on training that could one day make all the difference," said Gordon Dedman, Founder of Bushcraft Survival Australia.

The courses cater to all experience levels, starting with the 3-Day Fundamental Module 1, followed by the 4-Day Fundamental Module 2. Participants can then progress to the 7-day Intermediate Module 3, while a dedicated Junior Course ensures the whole family can get involved. There are also courses covering remote wilderness first aid and casualty care.

Each course transitions participants from using modern tools to relying solely on natural resources, covering essential survival skills such as:

·       Survival priorities and psychology
·       Essential equipment and the safe use of cutting tools
·       Fire lighting using modern and primitive methods
·       Water collection, filtration and purification
·       Shelter construction, both modern and natural
·       Plant identification and foraging
·       indigenous and outback cooking methods
·       camp craft
·       emergency signalling and rescue
·       Navigation using modern and natural methods

For those looking to push their limits, develop practical bushcraft skills, or simply be prepared for the unexpected, Bushcraft Survival Australia offers the ultimate hands-on and immersive learning experience.
