Novotel Barossa Valley Resort Turns Bubbles into Basil

From bubbles to basil, Novotel Barossa Valley Resort has given new life to bathtubs disposed of in their recent $2 million bathroom refurbishment by converting them into a thriving kitchen garden.

Tapware and showerheads from the original bathrooms have been installed to irrigate the kitchen gardens in the quirky new design making the hotel self-sufficient of fresh herbs all year round.

General Manager of Novotel Barossa Valley Resort, Sarah Henderson said: "When we recently underwent an extensive bathroom renovation, we had the idea to turn the original bathtubs into a kitchen garden. We are always trying to think of innovative ways to make the resort environmentally friendly. It has been a brilliant initiative and not only do guests have a brand new dining experience, they also have brand new contemporary bathrooms."

Novotel Barossa Valley Resort has invested $2 million into refurbishing the new guest bathrooms. The contemporary new facilities feature new walk-in showers, floor to ceiling glass walls, rain showers and the signature Novotel halo mirror.

In addition to the new bathrooms, the recent upgrade also included new poolside facilities and a brand new gymnasium to its amenities.

The new kitchen garden is supported by the resort's flourishing worm farm which uses scraps from the kitchen and conference centre to make soil for the gardens. In addition to the kitchen garden, a more extensive nursery is also being built for the resort to grown and maintains its own plants.

To experience the new look hotel and sample the outputs of the kitchen garden, Novotel Barossa Valley Resort is offering a refurbishment special throughout January to March with rates from $152 for overnight accommodation and breakfast for two people. Weekend surcharges apply.
