Six Senses Laamu to Launch Aqua Season 2014

unnamedSix Senses Laamu is proud to present its second Aqua Season from May 1 to October 31.  The season features a series of aqua-focused events including the celebration of International Surfing Day, the yearly turtle nesting and hatching, the popular ‘Maldivian by the Sea’ culinary experience plus Aquafitness.

To further enhance these events, the resort will once again be welcoming a number of environmental specialists who will engage with guests and hosts to help increase awareness of the importance of conserving our seas.
The resort’s General Manager Marteyne van Well said, “The Laamu Atoll’s natural environment depends on responsible actions and committed efforts of everybody concerned. Six Senses Laamu has invested in the conservation of this fragile ecosystem and the protection of vulnerable marine species by developing, amongst other things, sustainable marine-related guest activities. Improving sustainability methods are but a small yet important step in building a strong foundation of this national heritage region and its resources.”
Surfing Season at Six Senses Laamu - Surfing Season runs from April to October. ‘Off the hook’  waters would be from May to September. The Yin Yang, one of the most famous surf breaks in the Maldives, breaks on the outer reef of the local island, unnamed (1)Hithadhoo, which is only a small distance from the resort. Daily trips can be organized and being the only resort in the atoll, surfer guests often enjoy the luxury of having the waves all to themselves.
International Surfing Day - Every year, around the summer solstice of June 21, the resort commemorates International Surfing Day. It is a day in celebration of surfing and a special opportunity for all to applaud nature for providing us with such a magical environment.

Turtle Nesting and Hatching Season -
Between March and July, female Green Turtles return to the beaches of Six Senses Laamu where they were born and lay their eggs. Between May and September, approximately two months after nesting, the first hatchlings start their big and dangerous venture out into the vast ocean. The resort’s Resident Marine Biologist Rachel Lambert, together with a team of guests and hosts are on call 24 hours every  day to monitor and witness this unique experience. With the aim to increase awareness and further education, Rachel will also conduct a series of weekly presentations during this special period.
Aquafitness - From July 5 to  July 18 the resort welcomes  Aquafit specialist Nancy Durrenberger. Nancy will be conducting a series of fun water-based fitness classes for guests. These will include Aquafit, a combination of deep-water jogging and gymnastic exercise, aqua jogging and aqua power. On July 12, guests are welcome to join her in a full moon aqua yoga session in order to de-stress and relax, feeling their weightlessness while floating on the water under the magnificent full moon.
The Manta Trust - For four months during Aqua Season, a team of The Manta Trust will be on site at Six Senses Laamu undertaking research and helping raise awareness and understanding of the importance of these majestic animals. During their stay, guests will have many opportunities to interact with, and learn from the team as they conduct their research.  Special experiences that are offered include diving with the researchers on the resort’s own Manta Point dive site, learning how manta ID’s are established, attending the team’s special evening presentations and becoming a researcher for the day.
Maldivian by the Sea – Guests are invited to introduce themselves to the Maldivian culture through the original local cuisine. The resort’s chefs will create traditional Maldivian dishes with fresh ingredients from the organic garden and local fishermen who supply Six Senses with their best catches ! The dinners will be served in the Deck-a-dence, six sunken glass-bottom tables set above the Indian Ocean.
