A celebration of Australian culture, from rural traditions to modern day lifestyles, The Sydney Royal Easter Show is Australia’s largest annual event. This year the Show, which opened yesterday, runs to Wednesday 23 April.
Bringing the country to the city since 1823, the culturally iconic event welcomes visitors from more than 60 destinations each year, coming to sample Australian life in the heart of Sydney, at Sydney Olympic Park. From the action-packed international rodeo, woodchop and polo competitions, to carnival rides, nightly fireworks, animals on display and over 300 showbags, the Show has something for everyone.
Special Show Days
While the Show begins with the Official Opening on Saturday 12 April and first Grand Parade, there are a range of special events and discounted prices offered across the Show that may help you decide when to go. 
Heritage Day on Sunday 13 April celebrates Australia’s colonial past with traditional fair activities and Excellence in Agriculture on Tuesday 15 April showcases the best in Australian agricultural innovation and excellence. Senior showgoers can enjoy freebies on Seniors Day on Tuesday 15 and Wednesday 16 April, while kids enjoy discounted entry and free carnival rides on Wednesday 23 April.
Gourmet Food and Wine
From gourmet food and wine experiences through to a quick snack on the go, there is something for every taste at the Show. The Daily Telegraph Park will be the place to go to enjoy the finest produce in a relaxed parkland setting, while theSydney Royal Beer and Wine Garden will return again this year, providing the perfect place to escape the crowds and experience medal-winning wine, beer and cider.
An exciting addition to the Show’s gourmet wine and food offering is the Sydney Royal Talk and Taste experience. Food and wine lovers will enjoy delicious share plates paired with wine and beer tastings at this new ticketed event. There will also be live demonstrations and question-and-answer sessions with producers and industry experts.
Animal Walk
Animals are the heart and soul of the Sydney Royal Easter Show. Each year, there are close to 14,000 animals on site, including alpacas, cattle, horses, dogs, pigs and goats. The best way to see all the animal highlights at the Show is to follow the Animal Walk. You can see all the award-winning animals on displays and get up close with farmyard animals.
Entertainment at the Show
From traditional favourites, to new events and attractions, the entertainment line-up at the 2014 Show will excite both young and old. All new entertainment includes evening production Australiana In All Its Glory, the Jurassic interactive walk-through exhibition Dinosaur Adventures and Goin’ Ape – Gorillas in Your Midst, where a family of four naturalistic mountain gorilla performers show off their gorilla antics.
Family Friendly Accommodation
Families are well catered for when it comes to accommodation in Sydney during the Royal Easter Show. There are a number of choices in Darling Harbour, including the Novatel and Holiday Inn. The whole family will enjoy visiting nearby attractions such as SEA LIFE Sydney Aquarium, the IMAX Theatre, the Powerhouse Museum, the Australian National Maritime Museum and WILDLIFE Sydney Zoo.

As well as spending the day at the Royal Easter Show, Sydney is packed with kid-friendly things to do that will entertain the whole family. Tyrannosaurs at the Australian Museum features fossil specimens from China and North America that have never been seen in Australia and stunning life sized skeletons and models.
Hop on a ferry and explore the beautiful coastal town of Manly. With more than 20 kilometres of bike paths to discover,Manly Bike Tours will take the kids past marine reserves and sandy beaches at their own pace or they can interact with a wide variety of marine life at Manly SEA LIFE Sanctuary.
Around the harbour there are a variety of activities to keep families occupied including thrilling jet boat rides, a visit toTaronga Zoo, an incredible ghost tour of The Rocks or more carnival fun at Luna Park.
