Celestyal Successfully Transits Strait of Hormuz

Celestyal said its two cruise ships have safely transited the Strait of Hormuz, becoming among the first passenger vessels to depart the Arabian Gulf during a period of heightened regional tensions.

The company said the Celestyal Discovery, captained by Nikolaos Vasileiou, sailed through the strait on April 17 following a voyage plan developed with regional authorities and maritime security teams. It described the passage as establishing a route that could be used by other cruise operators.

A day later, on April 18, the Celestyal Journey, under Captain Angelos Vasilakos, completed the same transit, travelling as part of a wider group of vessels using the corridor, the company said.

Celestyal said the sailings were coordinated with regional authorities and security stakeholders, with safety as the primary consideration. It did not disclose further operational details.

The Strait of Hormuz, a key global shipping route, has been subject to increased scrutiny in recent weeks, prompting shipping companies to review routes and security measures.

Following the transit, both vessels are repositioning to the Mediterranean, where they are scheduled to begin their summer season.

Celestyal said all upcoming sailings remain scheduled to operate as planned.
