The premier events for the little ones are the Macrossan Street Parade on Friday, May 17 which this year has a Carnivale, what does it mean to you? theme, and the fun and action of the Four Mile Beach Day on Saturday, May 18.
Each year, about 10,000 line the streets to watch the parade, which is a true community event and includes motorised floats, bands, dancers, and more.
The spectacle and colour of the parade is amazing, and the fun continues afterwards with the fun fair, entertainment and fireworks display around 9pm.
Port Douglas Carnivale manager Ken Dobbs said for the first time this year revellers would also be able to enjoy the festivities before the parade with Market Park open from 4pm with entertainment, music, street theatre, market stalls, rides and amusements.
“It is going to be a great day and Port Douglas will really be buzzing on that Friday afternoon,” he added.
On Saturday, Four Mile Beach will be transformed into a playground for locals and visitors alike. From 6am to 2pm, the schedule for Beach Day on May 18 is packed with beach cricket, treasure hunts, a sandcastle competition, skydivers, pony rides, medieval jousting, beach busking, and a little sunrise meditation.
Crowd favourites Bree and the Bopstars will be on hand to entertain the littlies with sandcastle building, games, contests and giveaways.
Other family events include the Mega Market Day on Sunday, May 19, the free Taste of Paradise event on Saturday, May 25 and the Seafood Extravaganza on the Sunday, May 26.
For those who can’t make it to the Street Parade, make sure you tune into 90.9 Port FM locally on Friday night from 6.30 to 8.30pm to listen to the street parade broadcast with Kim Hurley and Kerry Larsen.
