10th February 2014, Singapore – Scoot, LCC of the Year1, today revealed further details of its plans for the Boeing 787 aircraft, of which it has 20 on firm order. These include the first delivery and surrounding promotional events, the aircraft's interior configuration and initial route deployments.

Said Campbell Wilson, CEO of Scoot, "Scoot has been operating for just over 18 months, in which time we've expanded to a fleet of 6 aircraft and 13 destinations, and carried more than 2 million guests. It's been an extremely exciting and busy first phase for the airline, but just as exciting is what's coming next: the induction of Boeing's latest generation aircraft, the 787, from November 2014".

Scoot took over the order for 20 787 aircraft from parent company SIA in late 2011, converting the order to ten 787-9 and ten slightly smaller 787-8. It has since been configuring them for the medium haul, low cost business model.

Delivery and Configuration

The first 787, a 787-9, will be delivered in November 2014 making Scoot the variant's second operator worldwide.

Scoot's 787-9 will be configured with a total of 375 seats. ScootBiz will feature 35 all-leather premium seats, enhanced to include an extendable leg-rest and a "cradle" recline position, arranged in a 2-3-2 configuration, whilst the 340 Economy Class seats will be in a 3-3-3 layout. Scoot's popular special seats types - S-T-R-E-T-C-H and ScootinSilence - will remain and be enhanced with adjustable headrests, whilst all seats will enjoy access to inseat power and streaming internet connectivity.

The 787-8, the first of which will be received in mid-2015, will feature the same seat products and features, with a total seating capacity of approximately 330.

Said Campbell, "The 787's ambiance, improved cabin humidity and larger windows, plus the new seats and amenities, will afford guests an even better experience than they already enjoy on our widebody 777s. But, just as importantly, the economic advantages of this later generation aircraft – including a fuel-burn saving of around 20% per seat – ensure that costs and thus airfares can be kept low so that more people can travel more often."

Deployment of the first aircraft is currently being confirmed, but by mid-2015 all Scoot flights will be operated by 787s. Scoot's current 777 fleet will be progressively retired as 787s are delivered.

Delivery Celebrations

In keeping with its long tradition of involving the community in building and developing the airline, Scoot will be holding a series of competitions and events leading up the first 787 delivery. These will culminate in a lucky few members of the public joining the Scoot team – including Campbell - in Seattle to "pick-up-the-keys" and bring the brand new baby to its new home in Singapore!

Said Campbell "The chance to take delivery of a brand new aircraft – the first of its type in Singapore no less – is very rare. It's a wonderful opportunity for members of the public to experience something unique and be part of Singapore's aviation history.
