According to *data by leading travel and lifestyle site, lastminute.com.au nothing beats waking up to a delicious - and free - hotel breakfast for Australians, with 89% of people saying it is their must-have hotel freebie.



The survey of 5700+ people rated a free breakfast (89%) ahead of any other hotel freebie, including a free upgrade (79%), free late check out (72%), free wifi (71%), free parking (56%) and complimentary wine (44%).

According to lastminute.com.au spokesperson Louise Ryan, the research shows Aussies not only love the satisfaction of nabbing a freebie, they are also getting more bang for their buck out of their holiday with hotels providing some incredible inclusions for holiday makers.

“It is not surprising breakfast tops as the number one freebie. Who doesn't love the convenience and savings of hitting up a hotel breakfast?

“Knowing our penchant for inclusions, hotels have started getting more creative and fun when it comes to freebies, with lastminute.com.au hotel partners offering everything from complimentary sangria jugs, to espresso martinis, spa treatments, cooking classes and even petrol vouchers for savvy consumers”.

  1. Be flexible with your property, and look in the fine print for the value adds
  2. Be spontaneous and book a mid-week break when hotels are more open to including freebies or offering upgrades
  3. Travel in off peaks seasons – this is when the best deals are available!
  4. On check-in ask (nicely) if there is a chance to get an upgrade, especially if it's a special occasion such as an anniversary, birthday or engagement.
